Biography of Carrie Arnold

Carrie Arnold was born near Greeley, Colorado in 1944, and she died of cancer in 1998. She attended the University of Northern Colorado and then moved to Denver in 1965. She founded a successful petroleum map business, which she sold in 1972. She and her husband owned and ran the Fort Restaurant.

She was a Western History and Colorado railroad buff, serving on the board of the Denver Public Library. She was a vice president of the Denver HO Model Railroad Club, and she served on the Colorado Railroad Museum Board.

She started painting portraits when she was in high school. Later, she became a pen and ink illustrator for a number of Western books and cookbooks.

 <scopecontent encodinganalog="520">

Scope and Content

The bulk of the collection are drawings created by Carrie Arnold which were commissioned by Bill Lagos. Between 1971 and 1997 Carrie Arnold created a series of winter scenes of Lagos's home areas of Hartville and Sunrise, Wyoming. Also included are scenes from several Wyoming towns such as Guernsey and Laramie. The scenes are historical, taken from old photographs and enhanced by visits to the sites and conversations with Wyoming natives. Lagos used these drawings as Christmas cards. Included in the collection are original drawings as well as a copy of "The Art of Carrie Arnold," privately printed by Lagos after Arnold's death.
