  		<p>Washington State University granted its first upper level degree in 1902, ten years after offering its first classes. Its first PhD followed in 1929. 	 	<p>The collection consists of papers created or collected between 2000 and 2002 for the centennial of Washington State University’s Graduate School.  The papers document the work of the steering committee as well as the events the anniversary tied to.  The papers also provide broad secondary source data on the history of each degree offered at WSU, the first individuals and/or the first women to receive advanced degrees in each program, the numbers of degrees granted, as well as biographies of select individuals who were WSU “firsts.”<?xm-replace_text {Text of the scope and content note, in paragraphs; separate each with
