Nancy Moore Rockafellar (b. 1947) was a scholar of history of science, medicine, and public health. Rockafellar originally trained in medical technology at the University of Minnesota and worked as a clinical laboratory technologist for ten years. In 1986 she earned a master’s degree in biomedical history at the University of Washington School of Medicine and received a Ph.D. from the Department of History at the University of Washington in 1990. Her research and writing focused on regional history relating to the history of medicine and public health. Nancy was the Washington State Medical Association (WSMA) Centennial History Project historian, supporting the Washington State Centennial, in 1989. Rockafellar later served as a historian with the Oral History Program, Department of History and Health Sciences, at the University of California, San Francisco, from 1994 until her retirement in 2007.

The Washington State Medical Association (WSMA) Centennial History Project was an activity that supported the Washington State Centennial Celebration, which was held in 1989. The WSMA Project focused on the medical history of Washington State and the Pacific Northwest, from Native American medicine through the late 1900's. The WSMA project was memorialized in a book titled "Saddlebags to Scanners." Nancy Rockafellar was a Centennial History Committee member, project research historian and co-author of Saddlebags.

Nancy Rockafellar began a historical research project with Group Health Cooperative of Puget Sound. The plan was to publish a book covering the origins of health cooperative movements through the establishment of Group Health Cooperative of Puget Sound.
