    <bioghist encodinganalog="description">
      <p>Four brothers, Bill, Dan, Alf, and Ed Seamount were born in Utah soon after their parents immigrated to the United States from Sweden in the last years of the 19th century. They settled at the mouth of Rock Creek, an isolated clearing in Desolation Canyon of the Green River in eastern Utah. There they built a substantial ranch with rock buildings, pastures, irrigation ditches, and other improvements. Bill Seamount, who is featured in the majority of the photographs, married Jean McIntyre of Price, Utah, in 1914, and they settled at the ranch. However, by 1920 the brothers were forced to sell the ranch and moved first to the town of Green River, Utah, where they owned the Willow Bend Ranch north of town, and later to Salt Lake City, Utah. Although in the middle of an undeveloped wilderness, and no longer actively worked, the ranch is still in private hands and still retains its character. It is a frequent stop for the many river runners who float Desolation Canyon.</p>
