      <p>Reuben Clair Newcomb (1909-1998) earned a bachelor's degree in Geology from the State College of Washington in 1933, and went on to work as a professional geologist in the mining industry and for the U.S. Geological Survey. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II.</p>

      <p>This collection consists of a single item, <title>Underground Water of the Upper Spokane River Valley,</title>a paper by Washington State College student Reuben Newcomb. It includes photographs, diagrams and maps. It was submitted to The Columbia Section of the American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers (AIME) for their 1933 undergraduate competition, and won first prize.</p>
