      <p>This collection includes newspaper clippings, photographs, correspondence and similar materials pertaining to Dr. Gertrude Boyd Crane, who taught religion and philosophy at Pacific University from 1938 to 1963. A leather bound scrapbook is also included with letters from Gertrude's former students, and a 1962 copy of Pacific University Alumnews.</p>

      <head>Biographical Note</head>
      <p>Gertrude Boyd Crane was a professor of religion and philosophy at Pacific University from 1938-1962. She was born October 30, 1892 to Oliver and Gertrude Crane in Montana. She graduated from Biblical Seminary in New Yorkin 1920, and received a AB degree from Montana Wesleyan in 1921. In 1925 she received a BD degree from Garrett Biblical Institute. In 1928 she received an MA degree, then a masters in theology in 1930 from Union Theological Seminary. She also received an honorary doctor of divinity degree from Rocky Mountain College in Montana in 1950. She taught at the Intermountain College in Helena, Montana from 1935 to 1938 before coming to teach at Pacific University. She was an educator, laywoman, preacher, writer, humorist, and bible scholar, and an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church. After retiring she traveled throughout the United States lecturing on the Bible. She died in a Milwaukie, Oregon nursing home on November 21, 1987.</p>
