In 1959 Whitworth College entered into an agreement with the Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing, Spokane, Washington which provided a two years liberal arts program followed by two years additional training in nursing at the hospital. Those completing the program received a B.S. degree in Nursing plus the R. N. In 1970 this program was discontinued in favor of a consortium of higher education institutions in which Whitworth College participated.
The pre-nursing program operated jointly by Whitworth College and the Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing is described. In addition the transition to a cooperative program conducted by the Spokane Center for Nursing Education is covered.
