The Sacajawea Audubon Society of Bozeman, Montana, is one of the more than 500 local chapters of the National Audobon Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to environmental conservation. The nationa Society was incorporated in the United States in 1905, making it one of the world's oldest conservation organizations It uses science, education, and grassroots advocacy to advance its mission.

The Sacajawea Audubon Society (Society) was established in 1967 to promote the conservation and appreciation of birds and their habitats in the Yellowstone region. Starting as a small group of local bird enthusiasts, the Society has grown into an established chapter that works to connect people with nature through education, citizen science, community engagement, and collaborations with schools, landowners, and other conservation organizations. Group activities include protecting native bird populations, restoring habitat, and raising awareness about environmental issues affecting local ecosystems. Programs like birdwatching outings, habitat restoration projects, and educational workshops inspire stewardship of the natural world and foster a deeper understanding of the region's avian diversity.

The Sacajawea Audubon Society records consist of minutes, bird counts, and other business documents such as correspondence and committee reports. A web archive begins in 2020. The collection documents the Society's conservation and educational activities. Well documented in the collection is the long-term Sacajawea Audubon Bluebird Trail Project. Started by member Louis Moos in the late 1960s and continued by Mary Geis, the program includes construction and installation of bluebird nest boxes, bird banding, and ongoing monitoring. Also well represented is the Society's participation in the annual Christmas Bird Count--an effort that started at the national level in 1900. More recent activities found in the web archive include a Kestrel Nest Box Project, the Bridger Raptor Count, and participation in the Bridger Raptor Festival.
