Historical Note:

The Wright-Blodgett Company was owned and operated by John Wood
Blodgett, Sr. and later his son, John Wood Blodgett, Jr. The company was
dissolved in 1948.

John Wood Blodgett, Sr. (1860-1951) was a lumberman, civic leader, and
philanthropist, of Grand Rapids, Michigan. In addition to timberlands in
Michigan, Blodgett acquired lands in Mississippi, Louisiana, California, and
Oregon. Companies in which Blodgett was prominent were the Blodgett Co., Ltd.;
the Wright-Blodgett Co., Ltd.; the Hill-Davis Co., Ltd., of all of which he was
chairman or manager; and the Michigan-California Co., of which he was organizer
and president.

The Wright-Blodgett Company Records consist predominantly of maps and
ledgers that document the company's land and timber holdings with tract
locations, prior ownership, taxes paid, and subsequent sale or other
disposition. The records are primarily for holdings in Oregon (Clatsop,
Columbia, Linn, Tillamook, and Washington Counties) but also include holdings
in Washington (Cowlitz County) and California (Humboldt County). The records
also include photocopies of correspondence pertaining to land holdings in
Oregon and California.

Of particular note are records for the Blodgett Tract in Columbia County
(township 7N, range 5 west) that was donated to the Oregon State University
College of Forestry by the Blodgett family.
