Alpha Epsilon Iota (AEI), a national medical sorority was founded at the University of Michigan on February 3, 1890 and instituted the first chapter (Alpha). Between 1898 and 1909, ten additional chapters were established in several medical schools, including the Universities of Chicago, Minnesota, and California (Los Angeles). Nearly three decades after AEI was organized, Xi chapter was installed at the University of Oregon Medical School (UOMS) on January 20, 1922.

In 1932, Xi chapter hosted an AEI national convention in Portland, Oregon where delegates from the chapters of 22 medical schools and 5 Grand Chapter officers participated. Local meeting minutes in this collection show various activities of the chapter, such as dues and expenses, elections of chapter officers, and initiation banquets. Xi chapter was inactive during the years of 1942-1943 due to low enrollment of women at UOMS, although the chapter was reactivated in 1944. Interestingly, the chapter had a ritual book, which explains details of the ceremonial procedure in the installation of a new chapter and chapter officers, as well as an initiation service.
