      <head>Biographical Note</head>
<p>Harold Schindler (1929-1998) was born December 1929 on Chicago, Illinois. He married Benita Nixdorf in January 1956. They were the parents to three children. While an infant, he moved with his family to New York City, where he spent the first eleven years of his life. In 1940, he moved with his family to Salt Lake City. Schindler began a more than 50-year careet witht eh Salt Lade Tribune in 1945, starting as a copy boy. He worked through the ranks becoming a police reporter, religion, and TV columnist and editor of the Sunday Arts section and magazine. Early in his career he developed a passionate interest in an scholarly commitment to the stucy of Utah and Western history. His first bood <title render="italic"> Orrin Porter Rockwell: Man of God Son of Thunder</title>, published in 1966, won the Award of Merit for Outstanding Contribution to local history and is still considered the definitive work on this controversial nineteenth century figure. His most recently published work is a compilation of articles entitled <title render="italic">In Another Time</title>, based on fascination, little-known occurrences in Utah. For the 150th anniversary of the first arrival of the first Mormon pioneers, he wrote a series of articles chronicling in detail their day-to-day trek to Salt Lake City. He collected his information from a careful study of personal journals and other primary source material. On the day of his death, he worked tirelessly on a book on the Utah War.</p>
