The Frank J. Radovsky Papers
document Radovsky's research on parasitic mites (acaraology). Radovsky
taught medical entomology as a visiting professor at Oregon State
University (OSU) in 1986-1987 and returned to OSU in 1994 as a Courtesy
Professor in Entomology, a position he held until his death in
2010.

The Frank J. Radovsky Papers consist of materials generated and
assembled by Entomologist Frank Radovksy and document his acarology
research on parasitic mites. The Papers include article reprints,
correspondence, curriculum vitae, drawings, newspaper clippings, notes,
photographs, reference materials, and speeches. Radovsky's specialization
was the study of parasitic mites in the famliy
Macronyssidae and most of these materials
reflect his research for articles and the book Revision of Genera of the Parasitic Mite Family
Macronyssidae. Materials illustrating this research include
article reprints, notes, index cards with reference citations, drawings,
illustrations of mite anatomy, and published literature from other
acarology researchers collected by Radovsky. The correspondence reflects
Radovsky's interaction with other acarologists, his work for the Bishop
Museum and the North Carolina State Museum of Natural Sciences,
publication of research, collaboration with fellow OSU Entomologist Gerald
Krantz, and peer review of journal articles for publication. The
photographs consist of 9 prints of an unidentified conference, probably in
the mid-1970s.
Biographical Note:
Frank J. Radovsky taught medical entomology at Oregon State University
(OSU) in 1986-1987 and returned to OSU in 1994 in retirement as a Courtesy
Professor of Entomology, a position he held until his death in 2010.
Born in Fall River, Massachusetts, Frank Jay Radovsky's fascination
with nature led him to study zoology at the University of Colorado, where
he earned his undergraduate degree in 1951. After serving in the Korean
War, Radovsky pursued graduate studies in parasitology at the University
of California. After earning his doctorate in 1964, Radovsky continued his
work at the Hooper Foundation for Medical Research until 1969, when he
accepted a position as Chair of the Entomology Department at the Bishop
Museum in Hawaii. He held several other positions, including Acting
Director and Distinguished Chair of Zoology, before leaving the Bishop
Museum in 1986. In 1987, Radovsky became Director of Research and
Collections at the North Carolina State Museum of Natural Sciences in
Raleigh.
Radovsky's primary research interest was the systematics and behavior
of macronyssids. He also served as editor of several entomological
journals.
Collection is open for research.
The papers were donated to the University Archives by Radovksy's
daughter in 2011.
