				application to the National Endowment for the Arts. It includes biographical
				information about Ed Carriere and his study of basketmaking, photographs of his
				work, letters of support, and articles about Ed Carriere, and Salish Sea basketry
				and culture. </abstract>

			<p>Ed Carriere, Suquamish Elder, Master Basketmaker, and Canoe Carver, learned the art
				of basket making from his great-grandmother Julia Jacobs. As a result of his study
				and replication of ancient Salish Sea baskets, Ed Carriere has learned from and
				helped revive the art of over 200 generations of his ancestors. </p>

				are from Leonard Forsman, Chair, Suquamish Tribe; Bud Lane, President of the
				Northwest Native American Basketweavers Association (NNABA) and Vice Chair,
				Confederated Tribes of the Siletz Indians of Oregon; Ralph Munro, former Washington
				Secretary of State; Theresa Secord, Master Basketmaker, Penobscot Nation, and
				Founding Director of the Maine Indian Basketmakers Alliance (MIBA); and Melinda
				West, a longtime collaborator of Ed Carriere. </p>
