The United States Department of the Interior was formed in 1849 when Congress passed a bill to establish a department concerned with national internal affairs. Essentially, the department was tasked with handling matters of internal development and welfare of the nation’s citizens. Eventually, the Department of the Interior would gradually branch out into distinct offices as the nation encountered different needs.
Collection contains 19 pamphlets related to diseases, hunting, and trapping; 17 pamphlets on birds and bird species; and 6 proceedings of the Biological Society of Washington.
There are no access restrictions on the materials for research purposes, and the collection is open to the public.
