The Edwin Noel Pennebaker Mine Plat Maps span the years 1928-1958. The collection consists of two books containing mine plat maps to accompany Pennebaker's report on the Sunshine and Polaris Mines; mineral survey maps of the Evolution Mining District, Shoshone County, Idaho; and other maps and plans.
Edwin Noel Pennebaker (1902-1995) was a geologist whose work and studies spanned the states of Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, and Idaho, as well as Africa, Australia, and the Caribbean. He earned his degree in geology from the University of California of Mines in 1942. Following graduation, he conducted geological work in Cananea, Mexico and worked as Chief Geologist for Consolidated Copper Mines in Ely, Nevada. In the 1930s, Pennebaker's work moved to the Coeur d'Alene Mining District in Idaho, where he studied the Bunker Hill and Sunshine Mines and provided mining legal expertise. Toward the end of his career, he worked as a consulting engineer for the Coeur d'Alene Mines Corporation of Idaho, later serving as company Director from 1975-1984, and Director Emeritus from 1985-1991. In addition to his geological career in Idaho, Pennebaker also worked with various mining companies in the southwestern United States, including Miami Copper Company, Cyprus Mines, Phelps Dodge, Consolidated Copper Mines, Homestake Mining Company, and Hecla Mining Company, among others.
