Eleanor Mulford Livingston (1928-2018) was a scientist and engineer. She grew up in New York and earned her first degree in American history from Vassar College in 1941. When the United States joined WWII, Livingston followed her brothers into war and earned the rank of Captain in the Women’s Army Corps.
After the war, Eleanor studied pre-med at Montana State University, but gender roles during the period kept her from advancing further in the medical field. In 1952, she got a job with General Electric that placed her in positions at the company’s Aircraft Nuclear Propulsion Department and National Reactor Testing Station. During her work with General Electric, Livingston began to earn degrees in the field of electrical engineering from the University of Wyoming. Between 1965 and 1969, she earned a B.S. in Medical Technology, a B.S. in electrical engineering, and an M.S. in electrical engineering with a bioengineering focus.
Collection contains bound volumes of The Evening Post; engravings of areas in Massachusetts, Sussex, churches and castles in England, and other scenes; newspaper clippings concerning the Office of Indian affairs and “The Sumner Memorial”; cassette tapes of an oral history interview with Mrs. Moudy and her reminiscences of “Once Upon a Time in the West”; and numerous pieces of published music and phonograph albums.
There are no access restrictions on the materials for research purposes, and the collection is open to the public.
