T. Coleman Andrews (1899-1983) was an American accountant, state and federal government official, and the States' Rights Party candidate for President of the United States in 1956.
Thomas Coleman Andrews was born in Richmond, Virginia, on February 19, 1899. After working as an accountant in various Richmond firms, he founded T. Coleman Andrews & Co., Certified Public Accountants, and was the founder or co-founder of several other accounting and insurance companies.
He was the Auditor of Public Accounts, Commonwealth of Virginia (1931-1933); organizer and first director of the Corporation Audits Division, U.S. General Accounting Office (1945 1947); chairman of the Accounting and Auditing Study Group of the Hoover Commission (1948); president of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (1950-1951); member of the Board of Directors, Panama Canal Company (1951-1953); Commissioner of Internal Revenue of the United States (1953-1955); Independent candidate for President of the United States (1956).
Andrews was a recipient of the Alexander Hamilton Award for distinguished leadership in the United States Treasury Department and the Bronze Star Medal for service in the United States Military. He was one of the founders and a member of the Council of the John Birch Society. His son, Thomas Coleman Andrews Jr., was a prominent political organizer and segregationist who thrice won election to the Virginia House of Delegates in the 1960s.
