         <p>The Association of Northwest Steelheaders was formed in 1960 in Portland, Oregon but local chapters spanned throughout Washington, Idaho, and California. The Walla Walla chapter opened in 1963 to save Steelhead salmon runs, encourage practices intended to bring back runs and maintain salmon as a game fish. The first chapter president was Randy Macdonald, an avid fisherman.</p>

         <p>The Association of Northwest Steelheaders Records span from 1963 through 1966. It consists of correspondence between journalist Vance Orchard and potential members, articles, meeting minutes, proposals, and brochures related to the Association of Northwest Steelheaders in Walla Walla, Washington. These records give insight into wildlife preservation and environmental activism in the 1960s.</p>
