Clayton E. Steinke Jr. (1942-) is a runner and former member of the University of Oregon cross country and track and field team.

Steinke had a successful high school running career at South Salem High School. From 1960-1964, he was a member of the University of Oregon cross country and track and field team, running under head coach Bill Bowerman. On the track, he competed in mid-distance and steeplechase. In the spring of 1962, four members of the University of Oregon team broke the world record for the four by one mile relay. Later that year, Steinke traveled as an alternate runner on the University of Oregon team that was invited to compete in the same relay distance in a meet against the New Zealand national team. As representatives of both the United States of America and the University of Oregon, and to comply with the Amateur Athletic Union, the team wore unique uniforms with references to the USA and the University of Oregon.

The Clayton Steinke papers document Steinke's career as a runner and a member of the University of Oregon cross country and track and field team from 1960-1964. The papers include scrapbooks, correspondence, photographs, newspaper clippings, programs, awards, digital media, an April 30, 1962 edition of Sports Illustrated, and a typescript draft of an unpublished memoir. Also included are uniforms from a December 1962 track meet against the New Zealand national team and a University of Oregon letterman's jacket.
