Albert George Lucier (1876-1962) was a New York photographer who moved to Powell, Wyoming in 1908 to document the Shoshone Project. The Shoshone Project was an irrigation project initially promoted by William Frederick "Buffalo Bill" Cody at the end of the 19th century. In 1904, the project was taken up by the Bureau of Reclamation in the United States Department of Interior. Work on the Shoshone Dam on the Shoshone River began in 1905 and completed in 1910. It was renamed Buffalo Bill Dam in 1946.

The Cody Road to Yellowstone photograph collection consists of 1 archive box containing 12 black-and-white prints. Each print contains two images. The photographs were taken by Wyoming photographer Albert G. Lucier circa 1910-1920. Prints of the images were sold commercially to promote tourism in Wyoming and in Yellowstone National Park. This group of prints was packaged in an envelope titled "Official Photographs of the Shoshone Dam, Reservoir, Electric Power Plant and Canyon" and dates from 1926. Subjects include: the Turtle formation, Shoshone Canyon, the Goose formation, the Holy City formation, Elephant Head formation, Garden of the Gods, Spiral Bridge, and the Shoshone Dam (known as the Buffalo Bill Dam since 1946). In addition to the prints, the collection contains the photographer's printed envelope and a pamphlet about the Shoshone Dam.
