Dorothy Grunbock Johnston (1915-1979) was born in Seattle, Washington. After two years at the University of Washington she attended the Moody Bible Institute and Prairie Bible Institute. She married in 1944 and had five children. A Baptist, Johnston wrote primarily for the Christian press, especially Moody Press and Scripture Press. She was also a contributor to various Sunday school magazines, and as "Aunt Dorothy" read children's books and stories daily on radio station KGDN in Seattle for five years. She credited her children and the family's weekend ranch life as giving her much material for her work.
