<bioghist encodinganalog="5450_">
Biographical Note:

Carol Soleau (1950- ) came to Oregon State University in 1977 to teach dance in the School of Health and Physical Education. With her graduate work at Stanford University focused on a combination of modern dance, education, and choreography, Soleau followed her dreams to New York after earning her masters in 1974. At OSU, Soleau taught courses in modern dance, ballet, and jazz. In 1978, Soleau organized the Oregon State Dance Theatre (later known as Oregon Dance) community dance troupe to encourage regular staging of modern dance performances among OSU dancers and local professionals. As director of the troupe, Soleau choreographed and created many of the pieces featured at the yearly performances of Oregon Dance. She also supported the troupe by organizing a dance performance class designed to prepare students for performing at Oregon Dance's annual showcase. The last performance of the Oregon Dance troupe was staged in 2014.

To honor her instructional legacy, Soleau was recognized with two OSU awards: the Carl Anderson Outstanding Faculty Award (1988) and the Excellence in Teaching Award (1997).

Soleau retired in 2016.
