  	<head>Biography of H. Paul Culver</head><p> H. Paul Culver was a pilot and known aviation and air mail pioneer. He was the first pilot to fly the first scheduled air mail service route into New York on May 15, 1918; the first day when air mail service began. He was also a member of the Early Birds of Aviation, an organization whose members all flew solo before December 1916.</p>

  	<head>Scope and Content</head><p>The collection contains printed materials (i.e. National Geographic Maps, publications, and memorabilia) about the early days of aviation and the "Early Birds;" correspondence; newspaper clippings; photographs; Ellington Field Yearbook dated 1918; invitations and programs to aviation events; and advertisements dealing with the early years of aviation.</p>
