Biographical Note:

Alumna Jeannette Ingle (Cox) attended Oregon State College for two
academic years, 1931/32 and 1932/33. Born in Portland, Oregon, in 1910, she
graduated from Albany (Oregon) High School and was a lifelong resident of
Corvallis. Cox was an avid photographer and was active in the Alpha Rebecca
Lodge of Corvallis and the Beulah Rebecca Lodge of Albany.

From 1950 until the early 1960s, Cox was employed as a
clerk/stenographer in the Chemistry Department at Oregon State College; in the
1960s, she worked as the secretary to the Director of the Pacific Northwest
Water Laboratory.

The Pacific Northwest Water Laboratory was established in the early
1960s, first housed in temporary offices on the OSU campus and later in a new
building on 35th Street completed in 1966. The Laboratory was initially part of
the US Public Health Service and in 1967 was transferred to the Federal Water
Pollution Control Adminstration within the Department of Interior. The
Laboratory became part of the newly formed Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA) in 1970 and is now known as the EPA Corvallis Enviromental Research
Laboratory.

This collection consists of materials created or collected by Jeannete
I. Cox and includes administrative correspondence of the Pacific Northwest
Water Laboratory for the period 1962-1969; several items of personal and Oregon
State College memorabilia; and photographs.

The administrative correspondence documents routine matters handled by
the Director, J. Wendell Gray; quarterly reports of the Laboratory; and
materials pertaining to the construction of the Laboratory bulding.

The Oregon State College memorabilia consists of a metal clip- like
bookmark and a desk-top notepad holder.

The photographic component of the collection consists of about 550
images, primarily color snapshot prints (approx. 400) with some b/w prints (65)
and color slides (75) and a few b/w and color negatives. Most of the
photographs are of events such as parades and picnics in Corvallis, Albany, and
Philomath and of sites (tourist and/or historical) throughout Oregon and the
Pacific Northwest taken during the 1950s-1970s. Of especial note are images of
the Oregon Electric Depot in Albany (circa 1915); the Pacific Northwest Water
Laboratory building and its construction; the Corvallis Centennial (1957); the
Memorial Union; and the Philomath College building.
