Biographical Note:

Margaret S. (Maggie) Davis was born on December 11, 1942 in Bellingham,
Washington, the daughter of John Bellows Schack and Margaret Lobdell Schack. In
1964, she graduated from Scripps College, Fairmont, California with a bachelors
degree in literature. Shortly after her graduation she married Gary Davis, a
law student. Upon his graduation from law school, he was inducted into the U.S.
Army. After four years of military service the couple moved to Helena where Mr.
Davis had secured employment with the law firm of Luxan and Murfitt.

During her two decades of residency in Helena, Margaret Davis became active in
several local organizations including the St. Peter's Community Hospital
Foundation and the Helena Symphony Society. She was also a member of the
publicity committee for the ordination and consecration of Charles Irving Jones
as Eighth Bishop of the Episcopal Dioese of Montana and served on a Montana
Supreme Court Commission which concerned the Rules of Admission to the Practice
of Law in Montana. Besides being involved in local organizations, she was
active in the League of Women Voters on the national level and served as a
member of the League's National Board.

The League of Women voters
consists of two parallel and complimentary organizations which are the League
of Women Voters United States (LVWUS) abd League of Women Voters Education Fund
(LWVEF). The LWVUS is the membership and advocacy arm of the League, which
lobbies legislators on issues of interest to the membership. The LWVEF sponsors
and presents events to provide public education, disseminate information, and
initiate litigation regarding the enforcement of existing laws.

Margaret
Davis served on the National Board of the League. During her tenure, the
membership focused on issues of peace, international disarmament and national
security. As a board member she drafted concenus statements and wrote position
papers. Because Margaret Davis was active in both the LVWUS and LWVEF, some
folders will have materials pertaining to each part of the organization.

In the summer of 1992, she relocated to Billings.
