		  "surgical tourist", perhaps a doctor or medical student en route from Denison,
		  Texas via Mayo Clinic in Minnesota to Leeds in England.</abstract>

         <p>Paul Clark Gunby (1893-1965) was born at Niagara Falls, New York. By
		  1900, he was living in Texas where he stayed until the mid 1920s when he moved
		  to Seattle, Washington. He was a medical doctor and surgeon. He died in
		  Freeland, Island County, Washington on February 5, 1965.</p>

      <scopecontent>
         <p>The diary indicates that Gunby was a "surgical tourist" at this time,
		  perhaps a doctor or medical student en route from Denison, Texas via the Mayo
		  Clinic in Minnesota to Leeds in England.</p>
         <p>In the diary, Gunby describes operations in various hospitals, mainly
		  in England. A handwritten summary prepared by Nancy Rockafellar, medical
		  historian, is with the item.</p>
