Paul Clark Gunby (1893-1965) was born at Niagara Falls, New York. By 1900, he was living in Texas where he stayed until the mid 1920s when he moved to Seattle, Washington. He was a medical doctor and surgeon. He died in Freeland, Island County, Washington on February 5, 1965.
The diary indicates that Gunby was a "surgical tourist" at this time, perhaps a doctor or medical student en route from Denison, Texas via the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota to Leeds in England.
In the diary, Gunby describes operations in various hospitals, mainly in England. A handwritten summary prepared by Nancy Rockafellar, medical historian, is with the item.
