    <head>History of Sharps Rifle Company</head><p>The Sharps Rifle Company was headquartered in Hartford and, later, Bridgeport, Connecticut. The factory was active from 1851 to 1881. It sold firearms, ammunition, and other accessories to customers and other firearms dealers across the United States.</p>

    <head>Scope and Content</head><p>The collection contains correspondence from individual customers and other manufacturers and dealers of firearms, 1851-1917.  Correspondence includes requests for firearms and accessories, inquiries about types of firearms and how to use them, purchasing complaints, and receipts for purchases. The correspondence came from all over the United States, from California to the East Coast. Some of the material is photocopies.</p>
