The University of Utah was established in 1850 and celebrated its centennial in 1950. The 1950s was a decade of growth for the university, with many degree programs being established or experiencing growth. In 1950, the first class of the College of Pharmacy graduated, and the College of Business offered an MBA for the first time. Through the 1950s and 1960s, the University's ballet and modern dance programs gained national recognition in this time period. President A. Ray Olpin embarked on an ambitious ten-year building program in 1957 that would change the face of the campus forever. Within a decade, more than thirty buildings were completed.
