         <p>Thomas Vaughan (1924-2013) was the executive director of the Oregon Historical Society from 1954 to 1989. From July 28 to August 7, 1978, he, along with other members of the Oregon Historical Society, members of the Oregon Geographic Names Board, and members of the Alpine Club of Canada, went on a hiking expedition in the Canadian Rockies, with the goal of reaching the Athabasca Pass at the border between British Columbia and Alberta. Vaughan delivered a lecture about the trip, titled "The Northern Passes of the Canadian Rockies," on November 9, 1978.</p>

         <p>The collection consists of a 51-page narrative account of a hiking trip that Thomas Vaughan and others made in the Canadian Rockies. The account includes maps and several pages of footnotes. Vaughan produced 24 copies of this account; the copy in the collection is designated Number 10, which Vaughan gave to Samuel and Becky Johnson.</p>
