The collection includes images and ephemera from this period, as well as some later publications pertaining to the herstory of WomanShare and lesbian photography in the West.</abstract>

         <p>Carol Newhouse, sometimes credited as Carol Osmer-Newhouse, was born in 1943 in New York City. In 1970, she apprenticed herself to the fashion photographer, which would be the extent of her formal artistic training. Following her divorce, she arrived in the bay area and become involved with the feminist movement there. </p>
         <p>A photographer, activist, and spiritual teacher in the Pacific Northwest, Newhouse was a central member of the WomanShare collective in Grants Pass, Oregon from its inception in 1974, and would go on to engage such lesbian art icons as Ruth Mountaingrove and Tee A. Corrine. She is the co-author of A Woman's Guide to Spiritual Renewal and made numerous contributions to WomanSpirit Magazine.</p>

         <p>This collection consists of the papers and photographs of artist Carol Newhouse. Folder contents include WomanShare ephemera, hard copy documentation of an internet installation focused on twentieth-century lesbianism in America, a chapbook centered around women's experience of labor, one scrapbook including images of Newhouse and others at Womanshare completing work around the commune, photographs of spiritual icons, negatives and prints of a WomanShare event, and portraits of women at and affiliated with WomanShare.</p>
