Biographical Note

Chase N. Peterson was born in Logan, Utah on the 27th day of December, 1929. The son of Utah State University president E. G. Peterson, he attended public schools in Utah for nine years but later earned an AB degree from Harvard College and an MD degree from Harvard Medical School (in 1952 and 1956, respectively) and practiced medicine in Salt Lake City for five years in the mid-1960's. In 1967, Dr. Peterson returned to Harvard to assume the positions of Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid and, later, Vice President for Alumni Affairs and Development, however he came West once again in 1976 when he was named Vice President for Health Sciences at the University of Utah. Five years later, on June 14, 1983, Dr. Peterson succeeded David P. Gardner as president of the university, a position he held until he resigned to return to the practice of medicine in 1991.
