The Washington State University Libraries date to the earliest days of the college. By the 1980s, the public services aspect of the libraries was split into two larger units, Humanities / Social Sciences (Holland Library) and Science and Engineering (Owen Library), as well as a few very small department-specific libraries and the archives. In mid-2010, all the public services librarians excepting the Archives (MASC) were merged into one Research Services unit.

The collection consists of minutes of the meetings of the librarians of the Hum/Soc (Humanities / Social Sciences) Unit of the Washington State University Libraries. It should be made clear that these paper reflect only that Humanities / Social Science unit, and they should not be confused with the Library Faculty as a whole. This was the largest unit of librarians at Washington State University, but does not include those in administration, cataloging, systems, special collections, or other library branches. While the archives traditionally might not keep records at this sub-department level, a complete set of 27 years of records does provide a fairly comprehensive look at the day-to-day issues of academic public service librarians.
