Biography of Hal Baylor

Hal Baylor was born Hall Brittan on December 10, 1918. He was a heavy weight boxing champion in California and a U.S. Marine in World War II, participating in landings on Saipan and Tinian. He began his movie career in 1948 and won renown for the fist fight with Robert Ryan in "The Set-Up" (1949) as one of the best choreographed boxing scenes in film history. Baylor appeared in "Big Jim McLain" (1952) and "Island in the Sky" (1953), both produced by John Wayne. Baylor had roles in more than two hundred motion pictures and television films over his thirty-six year acting career. He died January 5, 1998.
