Biography of Winthrop Ballantine

Winthrop Ballantine was born on June 13, 1762, in Westfield, Massachusetts. It is unclear from his journal, but he may have been either a physician or an assistant to George Washington during the Revolutionary War.

The Newburgh Conspiracy took place in 1783 when a group of soldiers of the Continental Army lost faith in the Continental Congress and its ability to compensate them. It was resolved by Congress that the army would continue to have unshaken confidence in it, and, in return, Congress promised that it would not disband without first settling the payment of all the soldiers in full for their service.
