      <head>Biographical Sketch</head>
      <p>Carl Weeks, a resident of Des Moines, Iowa, spent several weeks in St. George, Utah, in 1901 recovering from tuberculosis.  During his stay, he visited Zion Canyon, taking some of the earliest photographs of the area.  For fifty years he toured various scenic areas in Utah, becoming an early advocate for their preservation.</p>

      <p>The Carl Weeks papers (1926-1966) contain correspondence, notes, brochures, and articles concerning Weeks' travels to various Southern Utah scenic areas, such as Goblin Valley, Arches, Capitol Reef, and Zion National Park.  Also included is information on the proposed construction of Echo Park Dam in Dinosaur National Monument.</p>
