Schwabacher Brothers & Company was founded in 1869. It sold groceries, clothing, hardware and building materials, and was the outfitter for many prospectors during the Alaska gold rush. Schwabacher Hardware Company was incorporated as a separate business in 1888. Gatzert-Schwabacher Land Company owned property in Seattle (primarily), Anacortes, and Pierce, and in Skagit and Jefferson Counties.
Correspondence, deeds, abstracts of title, proxies, stock and land certificates, financial records, legal documents, bills of sale, advertisements, agreements, minutes, clippings and ephemera.
Bulk relates to the family's land investment companies, Gatzert-Schwabacher Land Company and Schwabacher Realty Company. The remaining relates to the Seattle general merchandise business and family.
