This is a four-page manuscript of a short story entitled The Man in the Shadow, attributed to "Willard." Handwritten note on the cover page reads "Property of Keith K. McDaniel."
The author of this piece may be Richard Washburn Child, who in addition to being a writer was the American ambassador to Italy between 1921 and 1924. Although the manuscript is not directly attributed to Child, there are significant similarities between the manuscript and parts of Child's book The Man in the Shadow, originally published in 1906.
Keith K. McDaniel (1927-1970) was a graduate of the University of Idaho. Special Collections and Archives received his papers in 2002.
