The William Adams family papers (1894-1970) comprise an autobiography, a family portrait in genealogical format, a biography of his eldest son, Charles, including a collection of Charles' favorite stories, a summary of on-going genealogy studies in Ireland tracing branches of the Adams family back as far as the twelfth century and brief sketches of the lives of selected ancestors and descendants. Adams, as a young man with wife and small son, immigrated from Ireland to Nauvoo via New Orleans, and, following the uprisings in Navoo, moved west to Salt Lake in the Utah Territory. He was part of the original Iron County settlement mission in 1850. Adams and his descendants became prominent citizens and community leaders in the development of that area of the Utah Territory that is now the southwest corner of the State of Utah.
