The Ethnographic Video Collection is the result of coursework in the Communications Department at Boise State University under the direction of Professor Peter Lutze and Professor Robert McCarl. The videos cover a wide range of topics: from a tattoo parlor to EMS "ride-alongs"; smoke jumping to Basque dancing. The interviews and primary source material were collected in the Treasure Valley region of Idaho, in and around the city of Boise.

Paper files from the collection include release forms, video logs, some student papers, and student reports and journals. The VHS tapes that accompany the collection, in most instances, include the final project (usually labeled "Master"), and many projects include some of the "raw," un-edited footage as well.
