Lynn Stephen (1956-) received her PhD from Brandeis University in 1987. Stephen is the Philip H. Knight Chair, Distinguished Professor of Arts and Sciences, Professor of Anthropology, and a participating graduate faculty member in Indigenous Race, and Ethnic Studies, Latinx Studies, Latin American Studies, Native America and Indigenous Studies and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at the University of Oregon. She founded the Center for Latino/a and Latin American Studies and served as director for nine years (2007 – 2016). She was president elect and president of the Latin American Studies Association from June 1, 2018 to June 1, 2019.
Lynn Stephen's research and teaching illuminate processes of settler colonialism in the U.S. and Latin America, Indigenous knowledges, diasporas, and histories, and how race, gender, sexuality, and labor intersect historically. Lynn Stephen's scholarly work focuses on immigration and asylum, violence against women and girls, race, transborder communities, Latinx and Mesoamerican indigenous communities in Mexico, Guatemala and in diaspora in California and the northwest.
The collection contains correspondence, research notes, policy papers, transcriptions of oral histories, and color slides. These materials were collected during an externally funded project titled "Building Alliances: An Ethnography of Collaboration between Rural Organizing Project (ROP) and CAUSA in Oregon."
