Contains photocopied newspaper articles, the Summer 1983 issue of the
Daily Zeitgeist; also contains a poster related to the production of "Invisible
Seattle: The Novel of Seattle, by Seattle," both the book and the radio
adaptation. "Invisible Seattle: The Novel of Seattle, by Seattle" was published
in 1983 by a group of "literary workers" called The Invisibles. The novel was
written using an experimental, collaborative process in which members of
Invisible Seattle strolled the city in white overalls interviewing and
collecting words from Seattle residents on miscellaneous topics such as the
contents of their pockets and their favorite places. The compiled information
was entered into a large mainframe computer by both Invisible Seattle members
and members of the public during the Labor Day weekend Bumbershoot Festival of
1983. The novel was read aloud over the course of a 15-week broadcast on
Seattle's KUOW-FM radio station, beginning in October 1983.
