			<p>Series one of the William Clark family papers consists of documents, correspondence,
				and reminiscences from 1740 through 1926. Most of this series was generated by the
				family from three subsequent locations: the portion of Massachusetts Bay Province
				which became Cheshire County, New Hampshire; Dane County, Wisconsin; and the area of
				Washington Territory which formed Columbia, Garfield and Whitman counties. Six
				personal and business account books of William Clark and W. I. Clark, dated 1852
				through 1891, comprise the second series. Series three consists of communications
				between members of the Clark family and the Washington State University Libraries
				dating 1949 through 1978.</p>
