Melvin R. Gibson was a member of the Coordinating Administrative Council on Nursing, Intercollegiate Center for Nursing Education (ICNE), Spokane, Washington.
The Intercollegiate Center for Nursing Education, created in 1969 and located in Spokane, Washington, opened as a joint project of four local public and private educational institutions in the Inland Empire: Washington State University, Eastern Washington State College, Fort Wright College, and Whitworth College. Upon its opening it was the first nursing consortium in the United States.
The first group of junior level students was accepted into the Center in fall of 1969. This first class was composed of 33 students, 20 from Washington State University, 12 from Eastern Washington State College, and 1 from Whitworth College. Following its first class in 1969, enrollment increased, reaching 155 students in fall of 1971.
This collection consists of Melvin R. Gibson's correspondence, reports, articles, admissions and curriculum data, meeting minutes, and other papers relating to the Intercollegiate Center for Nursing Education. It also includes correspondence and other papers relating to a search for an ICNE director in 1969.
