      <p>Jerry Lembcke is a sociologist who has done extensive research on the International Woodworkers of America; he did a PhD thesis, <title linktype="simple" render="italic">The International Woodworkers of America: An Internal Comparative Study of Two Regions</title>, and co-authored <title linktype="simple" render="italic">One union in Wood</title> with William M. Tattam on the union.</p>

    <scopecontent encodinganalog="5202_">
      <p>These records include the Federal Bureau of Investigation files on Karly Larsen and Ralph Nelson; two leaders in the International Woodworkers of America who were investigated on charges of communism and appeared before House Un-American Activities Committee. The files were gathered by Lembcke in his research on the International Woodworkers of America. The Larsen files are photocopies of files Larsen loaned to Lembcke.</p>
      <p> Another portion of the collection is comprised of audiocassettes of oral history interviews from Lembcke's research on the IWU in the late 1970s. In addition, the collection contains transcriptions, interview notes, and indexes to these interviews.</p>
