Emmett Fiske was a member of the Washington State University faculty in rural
sociology from 1979 until his retirement in 2012. In addition to his work as a WSU
professor, Fiske also worked as an organizational development specialist, and served
as associate director of WSU's Center for Environmental Research, Education and
Outreach (CEREO). His professional interests include environmental policy and
initiatives, particularly facilitating collaborations between differing entities on
natural resource and environmental quality matters. An example of this is the Chelan
Agreement, in which Fiske acted as a mediator and facilitator to craft a model
collaboration between Native American tribes, farmers and ecologists. The Chelan
Agreement led to the formation of the Washington Water Resource Forum and passage of
the Watershed Planning Act in Washington state.
