      <p>Samuel P. Kimball was born in 1851 in Ohio. In 1890, he and his family moved to Dallas, Oregon; in 1893, they moved to the area of Salem, Oregon. He worked as a fruit grower. Kimball died in January 1938.</p>

      <p>The collection consists of two patents, both for a cultivator to be used in orchards, designed by Oregon fruit grower Samuel P. Kimball. One patent was filed in the United States, while the other patent was filed in Canada. The U.S. patent consists of a certificate dated August 7, 1903, with the assigned patent number 735,886; and a printed specification and diagram dated August 11, 1903. The Canadian patent consists of a certificate dated February 4, 1904, with the assigned patent number 85143; a specification of the cultivator signed by Kimball and others on October 27, 1903; and a diagram of the cultivator dated November 16, 1903.</p>
