Children's writer Mary Jane Carr was born in Portland, Oregon, and educated at Lincoln High School and St. Mary's College (later Marylhurst University). She was the editor of the children's page in the Oregonian newspaper and the author of many books, including "Children of the covered wagon" and "Young Mac of Fort Vancouver."

Drawings associated with Mary Jane Carr's books "Young Mac of Fort Vancouver" and "Children of the Covered Wagon" are designated Mss 5362 and Mss 5363, respectively, at the Oregon Historical Society Research Library.

Papers of an Oregon children's writer.
