         <p>William Bliss Harris (1900-1981) was, variously, a financial analyst, author and small business owner.  Harris began his career as a financial analyst in the late 1920s before Fortune magazine hired him as an editor in 1937.  In 1950, Harris and his wife, Jane Grant, started a plant nursery, "White Flower Farm", in Connecticut.  Under the pseudonym Amos Pettingill, Harris wrote The White Flower Garden Book and articles on gardening.</p>

         <p>The William B. Harris Papers include materials covering Harris' time at Time/Fortune magazines as well as White Flower Farm/Gardening material.  The Time/Fortune material consists of budget statements, organizational charts, and published materials on Time and Fortune.  Also included are a bibliography and tearsheets of articles written for Fortune by Harris.  The White Flower Farm/Gardening material consists of correspondence and manuscripts of articles and speeches.  Printed material includes tearsheets of Harris's gardening articles as well as newspaper clippings reviewing The White Flower Farm Garden Book and profiles of Amos Pettingill, a.k.a. William Harris.</p>
