      <head>Historical Note</head>
      <p>The Faculty Senate at Central Washington University began as the eleven-member Faculty Council in the fall of 1946. The Faculty Council evolved into the Faculty Senate in September of 1963. The Faculty Senate currently represents the faculty in matters relating to curriculum, educational policy, academic regulations and standards, personnel policies and the welfare of its membership.</p>

      <p>The faculty codes in this collection contain information on faculty conduct at Central Washington University, academic ranks, promotion, tenure regulations, salary policies, teaching load, grievances and other related policies and procedures regarding faculty personnel. </p>

    <odd encodinganalog="500" type="hist">
      <p>Central Washington University began as the Washington State Normal School in 1891. In 1937, the school was rechristened the Central Washington College of Education. In 1961, the school became Central Washington State College and, finally, in 1977, Central Washington University.</p>
