				of newspaper clippings, reports, and photographs of the Nuremberg trials collected
				by Emma Schwabenland Haynes, who served as an interpreter and translator during the
				trials. A smaller portion of the collection includes Haynes’ personal family
				genealogical papers.</abstract>

  		<p>The descendant of a Volga German family, Emma Schwabenland Haynes worked on the
  			history Germans from Russia. during much of her adult life, beginning in the early
  			1930s. She contributed to the literature, compiled bibliographies, collaborated with
  			various researchers and writers, and was active in the American Historical Society
  			of Germans from Russia. She was also instrumental in locating and acquiring
  			publications and other materials for a library and archives maintained by the
  			Society.</p>

  		<p>The Volga Germans are ethnic Germans who settled along the Volga River in
  			southeastern Russia in the 18th century. In the 19th and 20th centuries many
  			immigrated to the United States, settling in a number of states, including
  			Washington, Kansas, and Nebraska.</p>

	 <scopecontent encodinganalog="5202_" id="a4"> 
			<p>The Emma Schwabenland Haynes Nuremberg Papers consist of newspaper clippings,
				reports, and photographs of the Nuremberg trials as well as the personal family
				genealogical papers of Emma Schwabenland Haynes. The collection ranges in date from
				the 1940s to 1984. Haynes served as an interpreter and translator during the
				1945-1946 Nuremberg trials. A small portion of the collection includes Haynes’
				ancestral research and correspondence with relatives related to genealogical
				research as well as the death certificate of Haynes’ father. Undated photographs
				include shots of the Nuremberg trials themselves as well as the city of Nuremberg
				and Haynes’ own experience in Germany. Newspaper clippings (in both English and
				German) discuss the prosecution of Nazi criminals and provide various reports on
				Adolf Hitler and other Nazi Party members. The collection includes correspondence on
				the Nuremberg Revisited and Judgement on Nuremberg Conferences. Papers related to
				the planning of the Nuremberg Reunion cover the reunion’s aims and aspiration in the
				1980s.</p>
